I have an IPAQ2210 with a 256Mb CF Card and i was wanting to know if there
is any software i can download to convert a DVD (or part of it) to a file
which the Pocket PC will be able to play. Preferably freeware, but i am
willing to pay (if shareware).

Could someone please point me in the right direction.

Cheers
Andy

I use "TMPGENC.exe" to convert the DVD files and "pocket TV" to view them do
a web search for Pocket TV and all the info is there and it's free.

Sorry to bother you again Magicbaz, but what do you do to get the DVD files
to be accepted by TMPGENC, and at what settings (resolution etc) do you
convert them to for the Pocket PC to be able to play it ?

Cheers
Andy

I found this guide useful
http://www.pocketmatrix.com/guides/dvd2divx/#ripping
but it's not actually necessary to convert to divx - the latest windows
media player works fine if you use the free encoder from microsoft.

There's a lot of trial and error involved in getting it smooth, loud enough,
bright enough, audio in sync, correct aspect ratio etc. but I succeeded in
compressing a 2 hour movie to a 128Mb SD card and watching it on the train
in the end. Now that 512Mb cards have come down in price the quality is even
better. The shareware programs I tried were a lot easier to use, but the end
result was not as good.

I think the guide recommended was the one I used at first. however there's a
guide on the Pocket TV website. Basically you need to convert them from VOB
to AVI of MPEG. If your using TMPGENC then you need a template for your
screen res and they are found on the TMPGENC website. I'm not at my computer
at the moment so I cant give you any links but if you still need help email
me at magcibaz@hotmail.com
See ya
