Zee,

You're welcome. Just to confirm that I've installed all three and in the
short time since installation have rebooted several times and seen no
problems so far. I'm not sure though when SP1 was released for .NET 1.1 -
I suspect some time ago and that for some inexplicable reason I'd missed
it. :-)

Cheers,

Mike,

Ditto on the no problems after install.

And, yes, you did miss the SP1 release for .NET Framework 1.1 but not for
much.

It was released 31st May...

Cheers,

Zee

Zee,

I've realised I missed it because my only real Win Me PC is still running
IE5 SP2 and doesn't have the .NET framework installed unlike the version
running on a virtual machine on this PC which has IE6 SP1 and .NET
Framework. It looks as if I hadn't checked for updates on the virtual
machine copy since the .NET update was released possibly because I haven't
been using it much recently due to the drop off of posts in the Win Me
newsgroups.

Cheers,

Mike M

Cheers Mike.

There once was a time I got notified by Security Bulletin while it
still mattered! Anyhow, I shalle wait until I'm on BB again! And I'll leave
that typo in as it's fitting. If anyone comes to Cirencester they should
grab a meal at the (tudor) Fleece Hotel, Market Place! Lordy this 56k
dial-up crawls!

Shane,

Hope the move went well and that you get settled down soon. When you're
in Cirencester look out for a guy called Andrew Carpenter who works at
Cirencester College and is a Security MVP. :-)

Joan,

Its the update for SP1 not SP1 itself I was referring to. Zee has told me
it was released 31 May.

Cheers,

Mike
PS Just had my third (fortnightly) delivery from T. I'm now hooked and I

I installed the above 3 items with no problem. My problem is when I
installed KB891711 I had problems when I rebooted. What am I doing wrong?

The initial release of 891711 released on 8 March caused problems for some
users. This patch was re-released on 12 April and no longer causes the
problems associated with the first version. What to do? Return to the
Windows Update site and install the latest version.

Mike, I have Net 1.1 installed as it appears in my Add/Remove list.
However I was not offered the Net SP1 update and it does not appear in
my Installation History. Have successfully downloaded the other two
updates. Do you have to go to a separate site for the Net SP1 update?

I've only ever installed .NET components on my Win Me PCs from the Windows

May and I installed it yesterday on this PC from the Windows Update site.

Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads [...] laylang=en

I also didn't get it through Windows Update.

I suspect these release dates and patches are somewhat mixed up. Don't understand it yet but I'll try.

Betty,

The revised 891711 shouldn't cause problems but if you do feel that it is
causing some then please post back and provide as much detail as you can.

Betty, you can easily confirm that the latest patch is installed by
confirming that the C:\Windows\System\KB891711\KB891711.exe file is version
4.10.0.2223, and not ....2222.
This patch is important and should not be neglected.

Whatever this talk of changes means, Shane, I wish you well.
And "good food" recommendations are always appreciated.

Here is my Google's first hit today: http://www.cirencester.co.uk/
Am I correct in thinking you are approx. equidistant from Mike and Noel?

Update on my last message.
Having dowloaded the Net 1.1 SP1 update, saw no differance in the .NET
folder.
Do I need it anyway?
What does it do?

I checked and I have the correct patch. When I checked for updates there
was one for Direct X Runtime Componets and I installed it, it was a 1 minute
download but then to install it it is taking 35 minutes. I cannot cancel it
as cancel is grayed out. Should I be installing this? I have windows ME.
Thanks for all the help, I really am trying to learn .

The '1 minute' Dx update is only a stub - which then downloads a rather
large file, which is probably what is taking the time. Patience is a
virtue - especially if you're on dialup!

Excellent Chinese Take away just down the street from the Fleece Hotel -
Mark's Kitchen. My dad says it's the best Chicken in Lemon Sauce he's ever
had. And I'm just now finishing my chocolate covered espresso beans from
Keith's where they ground me a decent Java/Mocha mix of which I do believe
I'll have another, don't mind if I do, ta v. much!

The Norman church is a most impressive piece of civil engineering too (same

the edge.........

I concur with Noel, Betty.

You may have seen a similar, common situation, when downloading any new
Adobe Reader version, using the Adobe Download Manager.
A small file is DL'ed which then runs and manages the DL'ing of the 16 MB or
so of the Reader. It can continue, if the initial connection is interrupted.
This file is then further massaged by Adobe's third-party file decompression
utility and then can be run to install the Reader.

I really do have to come visit all of you Brits, while I can still stand and
walk to see at least some of your interesting sights.
The loss of Alex this year has me often thinking of how quickly and suddenly
these precious opportunities vanish.

Gotta' figure out how to drag along Loon and Figgs, too.

Well, Cirencester's a marvel, Jack. We ate in the Thai restaurant last night
and it was exquisite! Wonderful decor, the wood carvings must have been
worth several thousands (wall panels, tables, chairs). I even resisted
licking my plate for once I felt so humbled!

Some Yanks there, too, possibly due to RAF Fairford being just down the road
barely a piece. In fact *the world's biggest military air tattoo* is on
there about a month from now. If anyone's seen the vid of the 2 MiGs
colliding, that was here!

Thai cuisine may well be my wife and my favorite! Exotic, tropical French
will do nicely, thank you.
Cirencester seems to be truly wonderful from my quick Internet inspection.
I envy your opportunity there.

I'm not as up to speed on the aircraft stuff as your friends there or
Heirloom is here, so what is an "air tatto", and what is the origin of the
term?
I do enjoy seeing pics of airplanes. Nothing might please me more than
doing 800 knots at 200 ft. elevation in the second seat.

Frankly, Joan, meeting all of you in England without Figgs being present
would be far worse than leaving my wife behind!
Have to think seriously about this dream someday soon.

What about lots of film, or flash memory, for the camera?
Inquiring minds want to know everything!

(I suspect a physical lock is pointless with Figgs.)

BTW, how far is Cirencester from you, Noel? Shane's new digs look
