Assuming i receive the following error message in a number of different
situations and while different sets of applicatiopns are running, do i have a
hope in the world:

<unknown> has caused an error in <unknown>. <unknown> will now close.

This gives me no hints as to what has actualy gone down.... how the hell ami
supposed to remedy this?

First thing to do would be to run an up to date virus and spyware scan.
Then take a look at what applications/processes are running in the
background.

First of all, I would not have QT, WMP and Real players running at the same
time, why not just run one when you need it? My guess, and it is just a
guess, one or more of these media players are not playing well with one or
more of the others..........bottomline: they are competing for the right to
play whatever is up for grabs. Try disabling all but WMP for a while and
see if the error goes away. If needed, add the others back, one at a time
and try to determine the culprit.
Heirloom, old and only has WMP
disclaimer: I ain't no guru, but,
the above can't hurt.

"John John":

When the error message appears, press 'Alt' and 'D' on your keyboard and see
what comes up. It should be specific information about the cause of your
error in the top section of the entire info received.
Hope this works for you.

Harry.
