Folks,

I have a new iPAQ 4155 running Windows 2003 connected with a USB cable to a
Windows XP Pro machine running ActiveSync 3.7.1.

I'll be brief:

1) Create Pocket Excel file on iPAQ.
2) Put iPAQ in USB cradle and sync with PC.
3) Pick up iPAQ and edit same Pocket Excel file.
4) Put iPAQ back into cradle and sync again.
I always get an error with 1 unresolved problem (the Excel file).
Clicking "Resolve items" in ActiveSync results in the following
error:
"Cannot Convert file 'Expense Report'.
Cannot create a file when that file already exists.

(Where 'Expense Report' is the name of the Excel file.)

I never opened this file on the PC with Excel 2003 (I'm running Office
2003). I can repeat this every single time by simply creating a new file in
step (1) above and going to step 4.

I do not have problems syncing any other file type, including Pocket Word
files. It seems to be a problem only with Excel.

Has anybody seen this problem before?

Thanks,
Paul

IIRC, 'Expense Report' is the name of a template file, so it's Read Only,
thus it cannot be overwritten. Save it under a new name and try again -
should be OK.

Flib,

I suppose I should have said this before, but the name of the file does not
matter. I have used different names, including "Expense1" and such. As I
mentioned in the description, when the file is first created, it will sync
properly to the PC. However, when the file is later modified on the iPAQ,
it will fail to sync.

Folks,

For those who might be interested in this particular problem, I've isolated
it to be an incompatibility between ActiveSync and my Linux machine where
all of the synced files are stored. My "My Documents" folder (and all
synchronized files from the Pocket PC) are stored to a mapped network drive,
served by Red Hat Linux 8 running Samba version 2.2.7. I don't know what
the problem is, but removing the Linux machine from the picture solved the
issue. This does complicate administration of my network a little... so
this is an unfortunate solution.

Best Regards,
Paul
