I turned on my Jornada 568 yesterday and the display has a white and lt.
blue bar running vertically that completely covers the left one third of the
screen. It seems to function normally (screen taps). I have tried a soft
reset and a hard reset with no effect. Is my Jornada doomed ?

From your description, it looks like a crack in the LCD part of the display.

could also be a loose connection to the edge connectors of the LCD panel....
you can try GENTLY pressing at various places around the outer edge of the
screen, to see if you can temporarily re-establish the contact... if so, it
might be worth opening the case to see if you can clean and reconnect things
to restore it. Otherwise, not much else you can do but salvage the
information on it and move on to something newer!
