Install intel drivers with XP Pro SP2?

If you have Windows XP SP2, do you have to install the intel/gart drivers on
the cd that came with the P4P800SE mainboard or does Windows have all the
necessary drivers?

I seem to be having the odd lockup and am not sure what the problem is. I
used Prime 95 which reported no errors. I even had the ram (Azenram 256MBx8)
which i had 2. replaced.

I have a Microsoft Digital Media keyboard with mouse and i was using the
USB-PS2 adaptor which i disconneded from bot and plugged the USB ends
directly to the back.

Sometimes the system will run all day without a hickup but then all of a
sudden, if i move the mouse or whatever, the system locks up solid.

Any suggestions? Can the memory be causing this problem eventhough Memtest
and Prime detects no problems? Incompatibility issue?

Two points;

It is probably a hardware IRQ redirect conflict, but without error codes
it's hard to tell. The mouse, and the keyboard, are the likely culprits
here, as they are the items most likely at fault.

Microsoft mice in particular are known to be of poor build quality, and
the Intellimouse drivers are
very buggy. This is a fact, and anyone with a little experience with
peripherals knows this. While MS keyboards are a little less problematic
than their mice, they are still of lesser quality (materials and
construction) than competitive products.

To anyone who has ever owned one...they do not last as long as any of their
competitors, their elevating feet break very very easily, and the overall
quailty of materials and workmanship is not as good as other brands.

Then you have been fortunate. Many times I have seen problems related to
their dirvers, Intellimouse in particular. Without the Intellimouse
drivers, the mouse works fine. Install the dirvers, and various problems
arise. I have seen this so many times in the last few years. I recently
retired; but was one of several admins for a company with over 2,000
networked workstations (various macines; PCs, SunSparc Stations, Silicon
Graphics, etc). When a Microsoft keyboard or mouse was installed on any
machine runnign anything but Linux or SunOS, then it was 50/50 that there
would be problems, plus the problems cited earleir (lags breaking, keys
sticking, etc). When other brands of mice an keyboards were used (Logitech,
kensington, etc), there were rarely any build/quality problems, and they
held up much better thatn the MS peripherals. Got so bad that MS mice and
keyboards were not authorized for purchase.
