Can anyone help please:

My new LaCIE external DVD+-RW firewire doesn't work

Setup as follows:
Dell Latitude C810 (notebook):
Panasonic mini DV camera via firewire (4-pin to 4-pin) - works fine
LaCie external 250GB hard drive via firewire (6-pin to 4-pin) - works
fine
LaCie external D2 DVD+-RW via firewire (6-pin to 4-pin) doesn't work
(unrecognised by system), but works via USB

Is there some problem with the setup - or do I haver a faulty drive.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
