I discovered that XP firewall opens automatically one TCP port and one UDP
port into a rule named "msmsgs xxxx" (xxxx is for port number).

I tried to deactivate and delete the rule, but at each internet connection
it rebuild "msmsgs rule" automatically opening again two ports.

I made some search and it means that "msmsgs" is related to MSN Messanger. I
fully unistalled Msn time a go, and ino more i don't use any MSN service
like Passport ecc.

Have you idea how to close these ports using XP firewall, or how to disable
the service that creates these rule?

Ps: Consider that is viruses and pest free.

Thank you in advance,
Paolo

grazie anticipatamente,
Paolo

First of all, the XP FW is a stateful FW. That means that if something/a
program on the machine is not soliciting for traffic on the port, then the
port is not open.

I suggest you do a port scan on the ports in questions to see if in factthe
port is open.

Yeah, goto Control Panel/Add Remove Programs - Add/Remove Windows
Components and uninstall MSN. It's as simple as that.

If you need to close ports period, then use IPsec that's there on the O/S
to close a port. You can use it to supplement XP's FW in this area.
