I'm planning on building a 1.4 GHZ Athlon system, but I still can't decide what type of HSF to use. Do I need to buy one off the AMD recommended heat sink list? I need something with good performance, low noise, and a price tag under $60. I need to find the balance between noise and performance. How do Swiftechs stack up vs the competition? Does anyone know how good the HSF is that comes in the 1.4GHZ Athlon retail box? Overclocking is not a must, but it would be nice to try. Peace of mind is more important.

You can find a number by checking various recommendations in this forum. My personal favorite is an all copper HSF, with a quite silent fan, called the Millennium Glaciator (which I replaced a Volcano II with, and have had great results since, on an Athelon 1.4, IWinn KK266Plus, and Antec Sx 830 case). More info can be found at www.millennium_thermal.com. It is about $35 from the manufacturer, with AS thermal paste. A great HSF!
