First off, I recommend the Antec cases and I'm pretty sure Newegg sells them now.

Why do you need so many case fans? You're just making more noise at this point unless you plan on overclocking (which you shouldn't do with the stock retail fan)

It was cheaper to buy from Crucial directly last time I checked. This link gave me 15% off.

20 GB is not enough. Get 40GB minimum unless you are absolutely certain you will not be installing a lot of programs and will not be storing video or music.

Thank you for your reply dhlucke,

I usually use one 20g HD for main and 40g HD for backup (I have installed backup HD's in my other computers, but have never built a computer from ground up). I am wondering if I will have enough places to plug everything in.

This is a very interesting project for the winter months. :)

The fans are inside the case when you get it. They come standard.

Appreciate the headsup on the memory.

Thanks very much for your time and input,

I'm with him, get a 40 GB hard drive, for a 33% premium you double your space. Even if you don't use it now, it can always come in handy down the road. Other than that it looks good, although I'm not sure why you'd buy 1 flat cable and 1 round cable.. better to just go with 2 round and get the extra airflow.

Me "I bought a TNT2 M64, the BIOS says its a Vanta"
IOMagic "Theyre the same card"
Me "Um, no"

Thank you very much for your input.

I feel way more confident now about this whole thing.
Wish me luck and hope I dont blow myself up or set the basement on fire.

im pretty sure that hard disk is ATA133, dont waste that using an ATA100... probably the hdd or mobo will come with a normal (ie flat) ATA133 cable anyway :)

[edit: WTF am i on about, ignore that im talking rubbish as usual... the hdd is ATA100]

I'm just about to upgrade to an XP/KT266A combo, as my current rig uses SDRAM, I'm gonna have to get meself some slices of DDR. I note that you've opted for 1 stick @ 512MB. Is that gonna be quicker than 2 256MB sticks? In the UK it's cheaper to buy 2 sticks of 256MB, so to me it seems the best option. If I decide I need more RAM I'll get a 512MB stick, and I can't see myself needing more than 1GB. Discuss
