who thinks that with the similarities between the nforce boards and xbox that emulation will soon follow.

compare a pc to a playstation and yet we have Bleem.

more a case of if anyone will risk the lawsuit... and damned microsoft will only release some sort of update that will block the thing. well maybe.

have you seen the size of xbox? that thing is stoopid. i have seen a panasonic (i think) dvd system with N-Cube inside it (some Jap only thing, in return for providing some tech) that looks like the sexiest toaster i ever saw ;)

But the X-box IS a PC! In fact you can port Linux to it as a "Game".

Back to you Tom...

bleem is a playstation emulator on the pc... my point was if they can do that they certainly can emulate xbox. no doubt theres some copyright protection theyll have to get past, but unless theres something secretly special about the cddrive no doubt theyll get around it.

personally i cant see why sony (or in this case microsoft) tries to stop the emulators, the consoles themselves dont make much profit (sometimes actually are loss leaders), its the games that do it. if people are buying the emulators that wouldnt buy the console, surely it can only be good for business - assuming of course, that the emulator only works with genuine games...

loss is why dreamcast went under........too bad too, because it was an awesome system...my little bro is bringin his upstairs right now..........and i dont think that the similarities between nforce and xbox are what will determine the emulation-ability....if your system is rated at an equal to the xbox, or above, then i would supose that it would run on there.........
at least i would think that it would..heh

It'll only be a matter of time before an emulator becomes available for Xbox. I think that emu's represent a minor threat to the Microsoft's profits though, at least for now. Emu's are only a hack of the actual console's system, and are never as efficient as the real thing. I'm not sure if a PC even exists right now that could hope to run Xbox games as fast as the Xbox itself.

That, and Microsoft vigorously prosecutes IP infringers.

Yeh, run an X-box game on a nForce with a Radeon 8500, the ULTIMATE insult to nVidia's X-box technology!

What's the frequency, Kenneth?

Methinks its running an incarnation of Windows CE (*smirck*).

So its really a 32 bit platform with a 128 bit graphics pipline (so is this false marketing or what?)

My AK-31 v2 works well running XP however it wants to install Via Bus Master Driver. The driver will not install from the Install new hardware program selecting the install from CD option. I have two(identical) CDs` which came with the mother board but I get the message "This hardware has not been installed because the wizzard can not find the necessary software." At some point I will install a second hard drive. How do I correct this problem and as my MB is working well do I need this install and if not how do I kill the new hardware notice that pops up? Thanks

I think is a Win95/98 like OS.

Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me.

You can always try getting a 4-in-1 from VIA that's XP compatable.

"if your system is rated at an equal to the xbox, or above, then i would supose that it would run on there" - well actually youll proly have to be a fair bit more powerful, since you have to software emulate stuff thats done in hardware in the machine. sayign that a fairly recent machine (esp if GF3) should be able to do it, Xbox has what, a 433 P3 in there? if youve a GF3 then the chips identical so no need to mess around changing effects and stuff. i doubt theres much problem with cpu/ram, just graphics.

the difference with emulation of the xbox and emulation of the playstation isn't even remotely similar. Not only does the xbox use pc architecture in it, the system calls are the same as those in windows (for the most part). The Xbox uses Direcx (at least im pretty sure it does) for its graphics routines. What this means is A: porting a game from the xbox to the pc won't be much of a problem at all, and B: You don't have to make your pc emulate an xbox. All you need is a wrapper application that will read the data off the dvd and mimic the OS behind the xbox so that it thinks its running on an xbox. Of course MS will try and stop emulators, but I wonder if there will be too much market for an xbox emulator considering most of the games will probably be released for the pc, as its not that hard to port it over. The only thing that will delay ports would be A: licensing arrangements with MS, and B: many games just aren't good pc games. Too hard to play, or they're inherently multiplayer games. However; most people don't really emulate those games much to begin with.

xbox has a p3 750 in there. and a dedicated geforce3 ( so to speak)
so for it to emulate, i think that it would have to have a bit faster than a 750 p3. and at least a geforce3.
but since they are constantly releasing new graphics chips, then having a geforce3 should not be too much of a problem soon.
it could work.

i never said it wsa going to be difficult because of hardware! i said that it'd be easy... reading the column in THG, someones taken it apart and it actually is LITERALLY a medium pc with no differences other than a few copy protection gizmos. if you want it to play just like the xbox, you ARE going to need a machine that is at least as powerful as a P3 750 and a geforce 3 (well maybe not quite for the newer games as they wont utilise its full power anyway), with a margin to allow for the emulaton/wrapper program, other windows resource hogs (whats sitting in the taskbar etc) and possibly xbox has benefit of gf3 being direct.

AMD 1ghz + GF3? i'd expect that to be no problem, just need someone to make it and post it for free on the web. and to do it again when MS try to block it somehow. the only undefeatable block to copy is if the CD Drive reads differently, or whatever, which it seems not to.
