Hello, I bought a Compaq Presario 3000 about 2 1/2 - 3 years ago. Most of the time I use AC power. I noticed on a rare business trip the battery only charges to 58%, but within minutes of using it on battery power is gone. I assume the battery is bad - my son told me that happens if you only run it on AC - went to buy a new battery but the tech at CompUSA told me the battery should still be good, that I should bring it in so they can see if the whatever charges the battery is bad. Make sense or is the CompUSA fellow trying to get some extra bucks out of me?

He is trying to make an extra buck. The battery is bad, get it replaced. I see that in laptops all the time.
