Asus or Msi??
Forum Motherboard & Memory : General Motherboard - Asus or Msi??
If You Cross My Path i'll make sure to ask you a computer question....uhhh yeah
well i decided on the 3200 winchester amd 939 for sure here, but i can't decide if i should go Asus or Msi. I don't think SLI is for me due to the fact that i cannot afford to spend so much on a pair of 6800's. A friend recommended a good deal on a x800 xl so if i go with that graphics card i don't need SLI. And while i'm clogging these valued forums with more of my jargon i may as well inquire: what case/power supply is good/affordable? i don't want to go so cheap as to affect quality. i apologize for my lack of experience, any insights would be much appreciated. thanks again everyone
Nforce is the way to go. Since Asus doesnt make a non-sli nforce4 board, you should look at the DFI board.
For a PSU you should look into the Forton Source Blue Storm, it comes in 350w, 400w, and 500w varieties. It's atx 12v 2.0 compliant, making more efficient and quiet. It also has an extra 12v rail for the high end graphics cards for better stability overall. And at about $100 for the 500w, its a great deal also

If looking for a SLI mobo, I'd consider the MSI or DFI. Anand does a nice review on them and gives them a Tie for Gold, with the Asus and Gigabyte far behind.
MSI has the better feature set and OC's very well. DFI is lacking some on features and feature performance, but offers some amazing bios tweak for extreme overclockers. Personally if I was going S939 PCI-e right now, I'd buy the MSI K8N Neo 4/SLI reguardless of going with a NV or ATI card. I like the feature set, near top notch OC'in, and really don't have a need for the extreme cpu/memory voltages like the DFI offers as my overclocking would be air cooled, or fairly inexpensive water cooling, nothing crazy. Anyway, it would definately be one of those two mobos, not the Asus.

Get the DFI

Did you notice in my link above, Anand finally did a review including the DFI and MSI SLI mobo's?

the only experience i had with msi was a bad one
asus is very reliable and solid if not a bit pricey
as far as case and supply it would depend on what your mb required, anotherwords what pins but for the most part there are converters for that- just check the manufactures web sites for specs. as far as cases go antec is very inexpensive and reliable some cases even come with very good power supplies usually go for about $120-130
hear me now, believe me later, trust me in between
i`m a cop you idiot
i`ll be back
MSI Neo 4 will accept a 20 pin without a connector, but you better have at least 18A on your 12v rail.
well i would go for the tt 680 watt psu
your all just a bunch of slaves
how long you gonna let them push you around
Efficiency with low watt usage will be shiite.
I'd go for something more along the lines of the Fortron Blue Storm 500W. I wouldnt recommend the TT 680W for just anyone, im sure that it would be overkill in most situations. Having said that, I would definetly say that out of all the components that make up my system that my TT 680W is the best performace/price component that I have ever owned. Its actually cheaper per Watt than most of the competition, but again it isnt the PSU that I would recommend for most people. Fortron is solid.

i`m very impressed with this psu
but i can`t seem to find a website for fortron
do you know it
and also do you have this psu
seems a very good price for a 2.03 version
which i usually see for like 150+

You dont want to go to fortron's website.
If you have to, google for fortron source, but you wont like it.
look for the site that's US, its a bit better

Looks like it hasn't been updated since the 90's, but its there.
Mike.
LMAO - looks like every time they update the site, they leave the old one under the old URL... I've found 3 different Fortron Source web urls, all different.
Mike.
sure does suck
takes a long time to load too
thanks anyway
see i hate that i usually search the companies site
to learn more about them but here they just lost some points with a potential customer
silly
just take some time and build a decent site people
god save the queen she`s not a human being
actually i start looking for pc stuff around 6mo before i start to buy that way i can learn all about it
now i am leaning towards getting a fortron blue storm 500w
much cheaper and only drawback is only 2 sata power connectors
but i doubt i`ll have more than 2 hdd`s anyway
people are strange and when your a stranger faces seem ugly when your alone
This Enermax 535W Whisper II model EG565P is another good option. 35W more from a really good PSU mfr and costs the same.

You know being in that part of the world where most of our components are manufactured anyways you'd think they would have better web designers

According to Crashman, FSP under-rates their PSUs

I would think most of the major PSU mfrs give their PSUs a little buffer in ratings. Slvr_phoenix's company has had some issues with FSP PSU reliability, but that's the only negative that I've heard about FSP. Apparently they've had issues with some PSUs not lasting more than a year or two.
Slvr: If you're reading can you comment some more and tell us what FSP has done to correct these issues. What type of interaction has there been between the companies since your company reported the reliability issues to FSP? Was it a bad batch of PSUs? Obviously you won't be officially speaking on behalf of your company, but we're all interested in some more details...
