As a friend purchased a new notebook, the salesman told him to charge it for 24 hours, Is that true?

Should he only charged it until it fulled?

It really makes no difference. When the battery is full, the computer will stop charging it. Whether you leave it on for 24hrs or not, it won't charge more.
On the other side of the coin, if it is a low quality notebook or an unrecognised brand, maybe it would be safer to leave it in for 24hrs. Better safe than sorry.
