A good motherboard for a P4 is probably an Abit IC7 (Intel 875), but the performance difference between that and the Abit IS7(865) is so small that the extra cash is not really justifiable. IS7 is very popular for 800FSB P4 systems. IS7 is under $100, IC7 is ~$150 or so....

if you hate Abit for some reason, I've seen recommendations for Asus P4C800(875) or P4P800(865) - differences much like IC7 vs. IS7.

The IS7 is among the best performing P4 boards and has lots of great features. Feel free to pay 2x as much for something else.

But to the point. Don't get any Abit AI or IS stuff, AI7 was a a complete junk for me, I've just 'tried' of using everything that is on board wich I don't usually do, but this time what the heck, try it, so.., sound is pease of upsetting equipment, mobo shoots down by itself, bluh bluh bluh, everything stock or overclocked, sensitive to every touch, Abit is no more in my book. EPoX is the way to go, cheaper than others, performance wize is the mid range, stable as the camping table, works with every thing. I've just ordered the ..3+ with 875P set, will see.

Get the Abit IC7 Max 3 or the ASUS P4P800-Deluxe. Abit is little cheaper and does much better OCing than the p4p800 but the P4P800-deluxe has more bells and whistles.

Been running my IS7 Oced 2.4c since July. No problems

Why are you guys so hooked on MSI motherboards I always considered those Motherboards as bargain boards, they are generally the cheapest boards you can buy, much lower cost then comparable high end ASUS boards although in the last year or so MSI has hooked them selves up with some bad ass board options. We can all only hope and pray that SIS follows the titanic to the bottom of the cold cold ocean depths. Of course that wont happen unless IBM stops using those junk assed boards in all those simply shiit assed IBM Aptiva's.

Then again I also considered Crucial Memory chips as bargain basement hardware until I found out that it was operating better then the high end Kingston junk I cut an arm off for.

Saying that brings me full circle onto the so very expensive Corsair memory installed into my 3200+ set-up that still does not perform as well as the cheap but stable Crucial memory I have in my 2800+ set-up.

Hell what does anyone know it would seem that the best system specs always do not deliver the best performance. We have all known that for years but the harder we all try to build high end systems the more we realize that a proper balance of hardware components generally will give you the best overall system performance.

The best solution to computer problems is still not to have a fire axe in a breakable case next to the computer where your wife can get to it.

Remember your computers attention span is only as long as the power cord. If you shorten the wife's chain then she should only be able to reach the inside edge of the kitchen door, and never make it out into the living spaces of the house.
