I have just entered the world of digital cell phones with a Verizon
Samsung SCH-a650. I had been under the impression that I would be
able to program it (especially the phonebook) via a computer cable,
but can find no reference to this.

Is there a aftermarket kit to buy?

Thanks.

Yes there is, Verizon doesn't want you to know about it. You can pay $60 or
more for this. Best Buy actually carries a software product that includes
adapter cables for multiple phones (including Samsung) that sells for about
$75, but I've found the best source is an on-line retailer out of Hong Kong
called Vavolo.

http://www.vavolo.com

They do stock the cable you're looking for for $12.00 and it includes OEM
software for sync address book, loading ringtones, walpaper, etc.. The
software you'll get is on a burned disc so it's probably not licensed.

I've bought two cables from them and never had a problem.

Sure this works for a SCH A650, doesn't list it in the supported
products for that link, though it does look like it'd fit.

Just a data point: I recently bought an SCH A650, and using a
"FutureDial" cable I got a Radio Shack I can connect to it with BitPim
and upload ringtones (It's not fully supported, you have to use BitPim's
"View Filesystem" and play around a bit...). I can even use it as a
celluar modem with my Linux laptop.

Can't speak about other software, but, the cable is labeled "Cable
3, for Samsung A310, A600, N270, VGA1000, VI660", but works fine with
the A650"

The 660 is a Sprint phone that is essentially the same phone as the 650 but
the 660 has a few more features.

Are there settings you have to play around with to get BitPim to work
in this regard? I bought the same cable in question from Vavolo, and
have been trouble getting any software to work with it. I'm not able
to connect to the phone, but I can see that the cable is at least
working to charge the phone, but connection attempts have thusfar been
fruitless.

I just got a cable from radioshak for my a650
i've been trying to make bitpim recognize the phone, but i think i need
a driver for the phone first

does anyone know of a place where i can download a driver that'd make
this work for me? for free?

thanks so much!
