My computer is snail slow. I have 64 processes...what does that mean?
I’ve scanned, defragged and ran my virus scan but that didn’t help.
My hubby is in overseas...so I’m lost. He knows more about computers
than I do.
I need advice. Other than scanning and defragging I don’t know what
to do to clean up my computer.
Thanks

Step 13 on this link can help you identify the processes:

Did you defrag ?
Which processes are taking up all the resources ? [performance tab]
Did the scan turn up anything ? Is the virus software up to date ?
How many items do you have running in the tray / startup ?
Other than slow, is there anything newly odd happening ?
What is your machines normal speed ? P?-P4 ?
Page file size, available ram. Is the disk drive running almost all the time ?
Is all the software running slow ? Which programs ? etc..
minimum recommended requirements for software, means good enough to launch the
program. Not necessarily good enough to use it effectively.
Drive size also.. If it's full this can also slow you down.
Biggest space hogs are now Duplicate files with XP. Some are just 1k links. But
not all.
Just a bunch of other simple things you can do to find the problem yourself.
