 Thread : Norton Anti-Virus 2003 subcription?

More Information

My Norton Anti-Virus 2003 (part of Norton System Work 2003) subcription will expire in the next couple of days.
I am having problem to decide, either:
- Pay for the subcription for another year?
- Buy 2004, don't think so due to many negative review?
- Go with AVG, free version.
Give me some ideas.
Thanks in advance.

Pay the $10 renewal fee. I still use the 2002 version and I am happy with it.

I've switched all of my machines over to AVG since both Norton and Mcafee are requiring subscriptions. I used to just let the automatic updates expire and update manually, but if they are going to be a pain, AVG works very well.

It's also one of the nicer programs for here in the shop. close down any processes that look like a Virus, install the latest AVG, skip the restart, run the scan and the virus doesn't have a chance to re-assert itself.

and it's small and compact.

Well I had the bundled 3mo trial version of Norton Antivirus 2003 and Internet Security, that came with my mobo,I attempted to remove it to install Norton Antivirus 2003Pro.could'nt get in to it Somehow someone set apassword(theirs)in protected files and took over admin rights in my Norton Anti Virus and found a slew of Admin.@#!$ in my XP pro OS luckily I have a backup machine and disconnected it as I was going to wipe my existing Samsung160g HDD and install 2 Seagates120g in raid0 config.I did not setup a password on my new build,as I have a D-Link router to my cable connect.and a firewall.all I had was some games and a almost depleted bank account ( im not too bothered with my personal info as my credit sucks anyhow)but MF I am really pissed off about it.Its my fault that I did not put a password in and I am wondering WTF is going on with Symantic or is it M$ OS's ?I have heard other ppl having had the same experience that I have in other forums.Just to let you know.getting really bad(I think Symantic has virus writers and hackers working for them.)just my paranoid personal opinion(justifiable)
I have heard it said that Grissoft's AVG is pretty good.
what about Bit-defender?

Well, I have said this before in another thread. Get rid of Norton- it is just Borgware. There is so many more better choices, that won't bog your whole system down. Right now I am using AVG, it seems to do the trick, but if you feel you must Pay, V-Com's "System Suite" has many good utilities besides anti-virus. Remember-Norton actually installs a virus on you system, just to see if it is working.

Today is just a syntax error on the basic road of life.
