Decent Priced Car with good acceleration?
Something like the Subaru WRX STI or something?
What do you think of that car?

How do you define decently priced car?
STi - very good thing, also Evo Lancer 9 or 10, VW Golf GTi or R32, although apparently R20 also very good, or Mazda 3 MPS.
Diesel wise - because torque equals acceleration, VW Polo 1.9 TDI or Mazda 6 diesel, rememer destroying set of fronts when we road tested one, lots of fun.
Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo - massive poke for bugger all money, and it stops and turns also!

I bought a diesel and while I love the fuel economy, the torque range is much smaller with diesels and so you keep having to change gears quickly. Petrols are much nicer to drive in your price bracket and get good acceleration.

What is your budget? That will be the determining factor of how much performance you can afford. The STI's are indeed awesome, but are not inexpensive to purchase or to keep fuel in. Same would hold true for all of the cars suggested, except for the diesels.

Then, depending where you live, that may not be a feasible solution (simply not available in some markets) either. I live in the US and drive a VW Jetta TDI that gets great fuel economy and has decent acceleration and performance. Can it compete with the STI or Evo, heck no, but they don't get 50 MPG either.

So, where do you live and how much do you want to spend?

Subaru builds a great car. My neighbor has the car you want and we have a 2010 Forester. We are both VERY happy with the quality of vehicles we have.

Can you get a 3/4ton duramax down there? Ive seen them dust just about everything with a small amount of work. You could pick up a used one for the price of an STI.

Car I would go with a VW Jetta with the VR6. Its a V-series motor but the v is only like 10 degrees so you get the best of both worlds. Fast as HELL!!!

I own a Mazda Rex8, among other cars. It's a true drivers-car, and not very expensive to buy. The Rex8 is far better then any car in it's price-range.

P.S. - Maintenance can be a bit expensive if you're not careful. The Wankel engine "drinks" about 1 litre (or liter for UK and EU readers) of oil every thousand miles, be sure not to forget this...
