Subject: 16.1" vs 17" WSXGA ??

I want to buy a Laptop mostly for gaming (Jedi Knight II... Warcraft III... Neverwinter Nights) if I get sent overseas. I'm in the National Guard and pretty good chance I'll be going in a month or so.

I talked to a few guys that came back and they say... get one. Not too much in terms of entertainment out there during "downtime".

What's better for playing games... the 16.1" UltraXGA Display like Alienware sells or the 17" WSXGA screen??

I wont settle less than a 128mb 9600/9700 ATI
7200rpm HD

I'm looking to spend $3000-$3500

The software program required "Windows 2000 or better"... so I installed LInux.

I'd go for the 17" - Nice resolution, bigger and lower res, so things will be more readable - will be better for DVDs and movies etc. But it won't be as sharp as the higher resolution 16". Its a toughy, but if you intend to watch movies and play games and stuff, bigger is 'generally' better. But I don't kno which 17" you are speaking of - so I can't give you any specifics (like approx. response times, viewing angles etc.)

The one I have is Pro-star 8794 Accerator.
http://www.pro-star.com
or http://www.xtremenotebooks.com.

If you go for this system a few thing you might want to change to. Like the 12 cell batterys vers 8 cell Why
8 cell battery 1.5 Hours of battery life
12 cell battery 3.0 Hours of battery life
And the screen on this system nice.

Here are the specs I'm specifically looking at 16.1" UltraXGA 1600x1200 LCDsimiliar to what Alienware.com offers and 17" 1440 x 900 WXGA Active Matrix Displaythat ProStar.com has. I could care less about DVD movies. Wouldnt the 16.1" screen be better?

I agree with you on the DvD Player. We still dont have one for the TV. But are limit is that the nearest video store is a hour away.

And why buy a movie when your only going to watch it once.
