Ever since the first 3D card came out, i always noticed this problem but never seems to find an answer. It's the "moving" textures in the distance. Like when you move, the textures in the distance(be it ground or object)starts to move as well, making it very hard on the eyes.

For some games such as deus ex, quake, unreal, half life etc, this problem never happens, the textures are crystal clear and all is well. Yet for others such as rogue spear, everquest, asheron call, dark age of camelot, ghost recon etc, i guess games with a massive map, this problem keeps popping up, i have used a voodoo3 voodoo5 geforce2 geforce3 ti500, all have the same problem.

So my age old question is why is this happening? and can we fix it somehow. I tried many options such as anti aliasing, high resolution, mipmapping etc all of them only showed minimal improvements. I really enjoyed ghost recon, but with 1280*1020*32 and 4x antialiasing this moving texture in the distance problem is still unbearable. When you move the whole texture in the distance just flashes. The ghost recon demo shows this problem. I hope at least some of what i said make sense, it seems i am the only one who has a problem with this? very very odd...

First impression, if you keap the same monitor all along, is just that, the monitor.
If you can, try a different one.

Sounds like a mip-mapping problem. Well, all I can say is, Some people are better at writing game engines than others. And the better ones (John Carmack - ID, Tim Sweeney - Epic) are the best ones in the industry. Their the ones that wrote the engines for Quake, Unreal etc. And half life and deus ex guys are clever enough to use those engines to build on and make a game.
