Okay, but I miss my M130 which looked nice (had a burl wood faceplate), did
everything that I needed, but just had a faulty digitizer so simply had to
go.

Not really. It depends on what you need your PDA to do. At the moment I am
put back by the faulty headphones jack which prevents me from using it
(comfortably) as an MP3 player. Apart from that, I only ever use it as a
PIM. To those who /need/ to read mail and browse the Net on the go, newer
models would be appealing.

I love my T2 and have not been tempted (much) by newer models. It does
everything I need and I could not function near as well without it. All
features work as advertised.

*However* I use it heavily every day for note taking, look up, reference,
spreadsheets, word-processing, etc and it is wearing out! The power button
is intermittent and the digitizer is a little shakier than it was. I have
also worn out two Ultrathin keyboards in the process :-).

I have talked to some other users and followed a few posts on newer models,
as well as look at Brighthand. My conclusions are:
T5: good choice, good battery life, lots of interesting features. But lacks
vibrating alarm (essential for noisy places and very quiet ones), has
rearranged the buttons (what's up with that - did they make too much sense?)
and lacks voice recording (I do not record, but the extra button was handy
in ZLauncher)
LifeDrive: good choice, poor battery life, lots of storage. But it is the
first issue of a new design (this is the reason I waited for the T2) and
rotating storage in a portable unit scares me.

I lean towards the T5, but could be convinced otherwise. The battery life
is a key factor for me.

Two months ago I replaced my T1 with a LifeDrive because the T1 had digitizer
problems that couldn't be fixed (any more) by reseating all the connectors. I
put up with the digitizer problems for at least 12 months.

I put up with them for about 6 months, but things kept exacerbating to the
point where it cost me. What's more, the Graffiti area was quite worn out
and my dad wanted to start using a Palm. This was an opportunity.

Love my T2 "Pocket Sized Laptop", the only feature I would sometimes like is
Wi-fi. Although a change of mobile contract giving me better a good GPRS deal
has lessened this desire. I have another Sim to provide reasonably priced GPRS
when roaming so even the idea of using wifi hotspots has lost its appeal to
some extent.

I use it as a notepad, phonebook, checking my e-mail at lunchtimes, surf the
web, satnav, mp3 player, PVR.

No plans to update, if it died I would most probably go for the T5.

Recently the flash memory in my T2 fried (unit put on quite a show before
dying....sort of like a scene out of Hamlet).

I have an extended support/warranty with Palm and shipped it to them for service
on advance exchange.

They replaced it with a T3 ---- they don't have any more T2's sitting around.

I really liked the T2. I didn't think I would care for the T3's lack of a
dedicated grafitti space or need the additional memory or ability to rotate the
display. If Palm had return shipped another T2 I would have been perfectly
happy.

But it's been a month or so now and I really like the T3, and I picked up a
wireless card and I like the ability to go online occasionally. I am really
hooked on the slider concept, and having painted the slider screws with clear
nail polish, I figure I'm good to go for a while now.

I never had a T2. I have a TT which is really just a very-very bad Palm. I
almost wrote that it's a good "door-stop" but I just tried it out and it
ain't. I heard good things about the T2 when it came out. More good things
than about any other Palm with OS 5 except for the TC. /PaulN
