I've just had to reinstall everything on my hard drive. While
doing so, I installed all Windows patches and also those for Office
XP, including Outlook. So I am now running Outlook 2002, SP3.

I also installed the updated Palm Desktop software, the updated
Outlook conduit and I installed the updated Palm software onto the
handheld.

The Outlook calendar gave about 5 error messages and
synchronization kept failing. I searched Palm support.

I finally got results by changing and/or deleting every single
appt. in my Outlook calendar which spanned more than one day. This
is listed on the PalmOne support site as a "fix". Needless to say
this took a lot of time and was a very tedious process.

Going forward - is it possible to enter appts into Outlook that
span more than one day and still be able to synch. Or, do I have
to enter each day separately?

Has anyone else dealt with this preposterous situation?

If you have an appointment that spans N days, you can enter it as an
all-day appointment that repeats daily for the N days. Still a kludge,
but at least it doesn't mean entering the same appointment N times.

Thanks - I thought that was a great idea until I went into Outlook
2002 and "tried" to make it happen:-)

I used the "recurring" icon but when I tried to set the parameters,
I/it got all confused. Told me I couldn't enter an appt. after a
recurrence or a recurrance before appt. parameter, or various other
incomprhensible messages - all stating clearly that I didn't do it
to Outlook's specs.

Do you happen to know exactly which boxes get checked and in what
order?

Palm tech support just emailed and said that the problem with
spanned appts. only happens when there is some corruption in the
Outlook database. They suggest that after the old spanned appts.
are removed, you can again enter spanned appts.

They also suggest running detect and repair to hopefully be able to
repair the corruption in the database.

I just tried adding a spanned appt. after cleaning up my old
spanned appts. and it seemed to work.
