HL engine is based on quake 2 so it is geared toward OpenGL, the DX mode is really buggy(visually it is worse than OpenGL).

I run a Mobility Radeon 7500C on My Dell Inspiron 4150 Laptop & I have had no problems at all with Half-Life or one of its modifications, Day of Defeat. So, I would not know why Radeons would supposedly spell trouble for CS.

Yes, CS in dx mode doesnt render properly on my 9500pro. Graphic looks a bit blurry, no bullet mark on the wall etc...(its engine is OpenGL based, what do you expect...)
