I can't read my 256MB Sony MS Pro (black) using my memory card reader
even though it specifically says it should be able to.

The reader \ browser simply locks up.

I read that my palm (NX73v Clie) formats the MS Pro stick in it's own
specific way and that is not compatible with any other form!

Do I need special drivers to read the stick using Windows via my card
reader?

The card reader is fine using CF, SM and plain MS (not Pro) cards.

Is there a limit to size that can be read by these card readers?

The card reader was just a cheap generic 18 in 1 with USB hub.

Any ideas?

regards

Pete

One thing comes to my mind: does that card reader spefically states it
can read PRO?  Some older readers can't read PRO or DUO PRO at all.

Dunno what else could be the problem.  I have a 256MB CF card that
works fine in my PDA and in my aunt's digital camera but it never
works in my memory card reader while the 16MB and 1GB works fine there
and my PDA. *scratch head*  My reader is one of the cheap $15 model
that can read everything but xD cards.

Yes :)

The only thing I can think of until someone tells me they use the same
card and it works is that either the specific type of formatting done
by the Sony Clie Palm is not compatible with a FAT file system.. or
the reader is not what it claims to be :(

It's odd. I'll have to hunt around to find someone with a card reader
locally so I can test on that... grrrr....

Cheers for reply

Any new drivers released for your card reader?

The card reader comes with very poor documentation and some messed up
CD with 2 sets of drivers. One set (Gensys) cause the PC to slow boot
and the others tell me that I don't need drivers.

As far as I am aware XP does not normally require drivers for card
readers as interpolation is done by the hardware..

However as I said earlier I have wondered if the Palm file system for
the Clie and MS Pro is some how different..

The MS card is also the slightly newer and updated 's' variant (M256s
not plain M256) so god knows what Sony have cooked up to make them
different.

It might be that the manufacturer of this card reader put in older
cheaper electronics that can only read upto 128MB of MS Pro which is
true of some older hardware :(

Just thought I'd ask around before I waste any more money.

Anyway. Cheers for response... Think I'll go get a 'known' make of
card reader as at least I'll be able to return it...
