The only place a see a reference to Northwood in the Buyer's Guide is:

This doesn't seem right to me. I have a P4 2.8C Northwood CPU (socket 478, 800MHz front side bus paired with ASUS P4P800E-Deluxe), and it sure isn't a Celeron.

Also, it was my impression that due to the heat of the Prescott CPUs, the Northwood CPU was a superior choice in many respects.

Can someone please clarify?

The buyer's guide is for current (at the time of writing that is) generally available production chips. The P4c has not been generally available for some time. It was the last of the P4 northwoods.
Apart from heat issues, at like speeds, northwoodc and prescott chips perform about the same.
The P4c is the best chip Intel has ever produced for desktop.

To bad he doesn't have an Abit IS7.

There were both Northwood P4 and Northwood Celerons. The only difference between them was manufacturing process and clock speed.

Hmm, best chip Intel produced...probably the Coppermine PIII. The Tualatins were better still, but outdated by the time they were released.
