Very simple question, which would you choose?
1) athlon 64 3200+ @ 2.0 ghz (800 mhz fsb)
2) P4 w/HT 3.4 ghz (800 mhz fsb)

for a laptop, power wise :p

"Power wise" meaning battery life related, right ? A64 ought to be better, but neither will be really good. If batterly life is your main concern, I would suggest looking at a Pentium M.

Sorry, my post was a bit misleading.. i meant performance wise, and "lastability"

i imagined that the athlon 64 would be better for longer, as it has a 64 bit processor, and with the upcomming 64 bit windows patch, would be fadster overall than the P4 3.4ghz

More Information

Pentium M for sure.

Very high performance, very low power usage, and 64-bits won't be needed on laptops until you are ready to upgrade anyway.

i would choose the P4 3.4 HT definitely , the mobile version has power saving features. very good performing Laptop a toshiba P4 3.4ghz HT 800fsb model. here is a thread about one person who just bought one! This laptop did 25,000 pts in Aquamark!

Shouldn't you be recommending a 85W "mobile" Prescott ? I mean it does have this all important SSE3 and 1Mb cache and it is without a doubt the most "powerfull" notebook money can buy. In fact, its so powerfull you'll burn your fingers while typing! that is, if the battery doesn't catch fire first, and you don't get a heart attack watching your cat get sucked into, and consequently chopped into pieces and spit out again by the 130 dBA, 200 CFM fan.

More Information

nah, i would not recommend prescott for mobile needs. prescott for desktop only! the P4 northwood is still a very good cpu especially the P4 3.40-M 800fsb HT cpu.

Not an answerable question. Laptops come as a whole package. You can not say I want this cpu, this graphics card, this hdd, this ram, this screen.
The way things are right now, packages for Intel are much better than for A64.

"still a very good cpu" Yes, it's actually a better cpu then your 3.2e.

I would probably go with the Pentium for mobile so for once... Kanavit is probably correct. However since you are new here I must inform you that Kanavit is a blubbering idiot who really doesn't know his head from his as$. Just look at the Aquamark forums, he is even infamouse there, the title of the thread is "First Run New Laptop Toy....Kanavit will Poop, it's a P4! OMG!". So... just warning, don't listen to anything else he says...

Your quote from aquamark boards, "btw, thx for supporting Intel"
WTF was the point of saying that???
Do you work for them or something?
Why are you so inlove with a company?
Jesus christ, I'm afraid if you ever meet the president of intel you'd wildly butt rape him!!!
