I'm currently using ZoneAlarm Wireless and AVG 7.0. So far this is the
best combo I've found. I've tried other firewalls (Tiny, Fsecure etc.)
but can't get on with them. My last AV was V-Com FixIt 6.0 which I found
great for virus detection but useless at deleting/cleaning.
I've tried all-in-one solution (FSecure) but always found something I
didn't like.
Just wondering what others experiences are.

I think Zonealarm Security Suite is excellent as a firewall, and for virus
and spyware.

I was an advocate of McAfee suite, but the 2005 version is so invasive..
Zonealarm and Kerio firewalls are a pain, and I would not use Norton
Anything.. I now use AVG and the SP2 firewall..

If you ever got a key logger on your computer Mike, you would be very happy
if you had ZoneAlarm installed first. All it takes is a visit to one site,
and who knows when that may happen. I am darn careful yet I have had one or
two installed on my systems in the past 3 years.

I use SystemSuite Pro 6 now. Started using SystemSuite years ago when it was
owned by OnTrack. V-Com now owns and they have improved it with the step up
to Pro 6.
The anti-virus is Trend-Micro. The fire-wall is Sygate. Both top of the
line. Now included is the Spyware software. Spyware is also by Trend-Micro.
Updates are very easy. You can do manual, notification that update are ready
to download, updates and ask to install (I use this one), or install without
notification
It also comes with some easy to use maintenance, clean up, uninstall,
recovery and defrag software. Only problem I have had so far was a false
positive on spyware signatures last week. Showed a problem that was not
there. Later on that day signature files were updated and the problem went
away.

Do you find it to be better than SystemSuite 5.0 and worth the upgrade?

Richard

I am a little wary of having no firewall other than the SP2 offering. I was
always happy with McAfee firewall. It was intelligent and never let anything
through that I didn't want. Unfortunately, their 2005 suite is so invasive
that I just can't recommend them anymore. Both anti-virus and firewall do a
great job, but at the expense of performance. Shades of Norton finally.

Kerio firewall looked promising, but I gotten sick of having to tell it what
to do. The free Zonealarm was blocking stuff left, right and centre, and
after only three hours, I dumped it. I guess that I should be less of a
cheapskate, and buy the Pro version. We will see.

I have heard all good things about 'The Shield Pro'. Maybe I will try that
route before committing to Zonealarm. Until that time, I will leave SP2
sitting behind the router 'just in case'. :-)

Worth the upgrade?
Yes
The upgrade just for the anti-spyware software is enough. The anti-virus
engine has been updated and beefed up. The fire-wall has been beefed up
also. The interface seems to work faster and smoother. If you are using SS5
already, the upgrade is easy. The new UpDate interface is nice, I like the
download and ask to install. Works well for me. I did the upgrade when they
had the special a few months ago and saved some bucks. As you know
Trend-Micro is in the top 5 for anti-virus software, the anti-spyware
software included should test in the top 5 very easily.
Everybody has their favorites, and I am not trying to change anybody's mind,
unless they are using that No**on junk. If you have used SystemSuite in the
past, the new Pro 6 version has a smooth, easy to use interface, that works
very well.
And yes I know Sygate is now destroyed as a good firewall, since they
decided to gone slumming, but the firewall included in SS Pro 6 in not
affected by the purchase. V-Com will tell you that the contract they had
with Sygate, was purchased and the terms cannot be changed. The firewall
must be supported as it is until the end of the original contract with
Sygate. After that, anyones guess, but I can't see them going with the "new"
owner of Sygate.

No.
The install software removes any of the old files no longer needed. What is
nice is that the "old" firewall settings, and many other of your setting
just transfer over. It is nice to not have to go through the "allowing" of
everything with the firewall again. Suggestion, check the box to do a
spyware scan while doing the virus scan. You will find that option under
"Settings, Anti-Virus" from the "Home" screen. I like this, because a deep
scan of the HD looks everything that is bad. I also, against the advice of
many of the MVP's here have run the e-mail virus scan since I started using
SS4. I have never had an error with OE and getting my e-mail. In fact with
SS5, it stopped a series (hundreds in a 3 week period) of e-mails
containing, a virus. All appeared to be coming from my parents. Their
machine was clean (they were also running SS5). They also got hundreds that
were blocked. We later on found the infected machine belonged to Pop's
sister. She was using No**on's.

Yes I recommend SystemSuite. It integrated well with Win '98SE, and
integrates well with XP. Sorry I never did the ME or 2000 software. I
understand I missed nothing with ME.

Also I still use AdAwareSE, as well as Spybot S&D, and WinPatrol. I have
used WinPatrol for a very long time. Scotty has "been on patrol" for a long
time. The WinPatrol Plus (paid version) is the way to go. A one time, low
priced fee ($25). I have used WinPatrol long before anything else. The
protection it affords stopped so much before the others came along. Check
it out and let me know what you think of it. www.winpatrol.com It is very
well trusted.

Are you saying that if you visit certain websites that a keylogger may
be installed without your knowledge? How does that happen?

I like the XP firewall (I scrapped ZA Free because it didn't set up
service dependencies properly so it would clobber the sshd inbound port
when it started after sshd). The Windows firewall service has the proper
startup dependencies to prevent that from happening.

or AV, I use McAfee on the systems that still have time left on the
12-month subscription that came with it, and AVG Free on the rest.

I also like MS AntiSpyware and use it instead of Ad Aware and Spybot.
