"Can't connect" can mean a lot fo things. Firstly, does dns work? Eg, does "host www.tomshardware.com" return an IP address? If so, can you ping it? Also, what is your network like? Do you have a firewall, a proxy, etc?

I have a normal connection in Windows OS and Conectiva Linux 8 in another partition (before the Conectiva I had Red Had 7.3 and the connection was so good). I have a Encore LAN adapter card. I tried to ping a lot of sites but without return. |

I have tried to change some parameters in the network configuration but without success. I also tried to ping some sites, like www.yahoo.com, www.tomshardware.com and after some time, a message: "couldn't ping the site ...."

Okay, your loopback ip is all good, but what about your other one? The one you deleted that is. Is it 127.0.0.1 or 192.168.0.1 or is it something different? I don't really care what it is, just so long as it's not something funny like that.

you can't change the hardware address (also known as MAC address). It looks like you're talking, based on the RX and TX packet count. Can you put a 2nd Pc on the LAN and try to ping each other?
