Safe Mode or Sleep Mode?

Safe Mode is what a computer does.

Does the PC turn on OK? Fans, lights, normal sounds? Issues like this tend to be on the computer side, motherboard or video card dies, or the power supply. Test the PC with another monitor, it's probably dead.

Does your monitor have a push-button menu of its own?

The only way the system could stick in a form of safe mode that only affects the screen is if /BASEVIDEO is ticked in System Configuration but that would still show an 800 x 600 on the monitor so everything is probably working properly except your screen.

Another quick thought - is it connected by D-Sub - the small, usually blue 15 pin connector from the PC or does it have DVI or HDMI connections?

Does another monitor work on the computer? Need to rule out PC as the issue. Can also move the monitor to another computer, see if it works there. Sounds fine, as in fans etc... does not always means it's working.

You can try to manually swap monitor inputs, if it's a newer monitor should have a couple of inputs and a bezel button to select them.

The answer has to lie in the screen's own menu.
