GAteway 300S memory upgrade situation....with 256 Mb memory PC ran slow and churnned so I decided to try to ujpgrade to 512Mb. Acquired the correct chip and installed the new striip. Tried to power up the PC and heard 3 beeps and no disk drive activity to load Windows XP. Monitor light (not scr een) kept blinking. And power on/off swith would not shut the PC down.

Next I removed the new strip, powered on the PC and got the same 3 beeps and no Windows XP.....Power Off would not shut the PC down either.

Any ideas?

Before powering on must the BIOS be reconfigured for the new 512 Mb?

Memory:Three equal length beeps followed by a pause. Pattern may be repeated.Memory beeps indicate memory has either failed or needs to be reseated.

08/22 - not in my case - updated automatically.
