Hello,
I have a Gateway M-1625, now when it attempts to boot uo I get two short beeps. Then the screen shows: 632K-passed
1918M Extended Ram-passed
1024 KB L2 Cashe
System Bios shadowed
ATAPI CD-ROM- Optiarc DVD RW AD-7563A
Fixed Disk 0:
Mouse initalized
System Configuration data updated
ERROR
System configuration Data read ERROR
unable to reset with f1 or f2- is the computer fried? Took it to bestbuy, feel like they just wanted to sell me a new computer, was told mother board was bad... HELP.

If you can get into the BIOS screens you need to select the option (if there) to set to defaults. If not then there's no simple way to clear the BIOS ROM on a laptop short of disassembly.

You could use a flash drive and second computer. It is a lot of work, as you have to set up the flash drive to boot from an install the BiOS imaging files and such. Once you've done that, you can plug the Flash drive into a USB port and boot to that. You will also need the commands to enter when it boots, and then it sould reflash the BiOS. As was stated, it isn't simple. I am getting ready to undertake that myself in order to unlock the BiOS in this thing.
