More Information

This may not be the place for this, but I am trying to help someone out at work... here is their post:

I wonder if anyone can tell me who I could ask about this. My mom (who is recovering from a stroke & is 89) did the family genealogy using a Smith Corona word processor. All the information is stored on, I believe, 2.8" disks. Is there any way possible to somehow get that information onto a computer???

Thanks
Barb

Did a quick google search. What I've determined is that there are 2 options:

1) some sort of ascii transfer thru the modem/serial port on the WP, as referenced here: http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1563/is_n6_v9/ai_10746463

2) take the disk to a data recovery service and have it put on a normal floppy/CD/some other media. Not a recommendation to use them, but here's a site that says they do smith-corona disks: http://www.vantagetech.com/disk.html

Not an exhaustive search by any means, but from what I remember of those things, with their non-standard floppy disks, they may be the only options.
