my husband bought me a new gateway NV55C03u which i see is already discontinued. i can't find many reviews on it either just a few in april 2010 so wondering if its a lemon?

I assume you're not thinking of returning it unopened to your husband !

I doubt if you have reason to worry, models change almost monthly.

I bought the Gateway NV55C03U from Bestbuy and the first thing I noticed was how quiet the volume was so I went to the volume controls and checked the balance control and found that the right channel wasn't working. Then I noticed that there was only one tiny speaker that sounded like it was in a coffee can, and there was a space for a right speaker but it was never installed because there was a plug in its place. I returned it to Bestbuy as defective and the clerk and I checked the display model and it had the same defect- no right channel.

I wonder if Gateway was/is knowingly selling defective laptops?
