I bought the IMB HDD for NZ$18, but I just found a suitable 68pin LVD Terminator(new) costing NZ$30!

Any SCSI card you like, so long as it has a 68-pin connector. The early 68-pin cards were 40MB/s I believe (Ultra Wide), which should be "fast enough". Better still would be a Ultra 80 card (or U2W). You don't need anything faster unless you're doing a RAID array, in which case Ultra 160 is faster than a PCI slot anyway.

I won't be doing any RAID stuff with SCSI.

68 to 50 pin adapters work fine (and vice versa) but 50 pin connections limit you to 20MB/s max. Remember that the transfer rates of older drives are slower, so an older 7200RPM drive will probably put out around 50MB/s. So Ultra Wide SCSI (40MB/s) would probably be fast enough, U2W (80MB/s) would be better. The nice thing is that the Adaptec 2940UW is such an old card you should be able to find one for around $10.

I'm fairly certain they're rebranded drives.

Oh and regarding to SCSI standard, what's the difference between UltraWide3(UW3) and U160?

I believe the UltraWide is the old 40pin connection. Ultra160 uses the newer 68pin or 80pin connection.

There is no SCSI 40-pin. Ultra SCSI was 50-pin (a wide cable but it's called narrow because of the bandwidth) and offered 10MB/s (20 in later implementations).
