Right ... now I realise what your up to !!

Not many of us here remember that project - 6 years have passed by quickly !!

I helped a mate Craig build one of these using a 14" ACER LCD Panel a few years back.

I spaced the panel about 5 or 10 mm above the glass for one good reason ... HEAT from the bulb below in the OHP Case ... it heats the glass up quite a bit. Frank explains it in the link below - use packing foam.

Our concern was the heat below damaging the LCD panel.

Also, I put extra fans (fairly low RPM and quiet) in the side of the OHP box to pull the heat out.

I hope this helps.

Of course LCD projectors have dropped in price where they can now be bought for a fraction of the cost at the time Frank did the original article.

My friend Craig's homemade projector is still working ... 3 years on.

Works fine in a dark room ... emphasis on dark room.

Good luck !!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR REPLYING.
yes packing foam is used to maintain the distance.but should i rip the foam a bit and place the LCD panel in that gap?
OR
should i simply place the LCD panel just above the packing foam?

I would recess the top of the foam so the edge of the panel sits neatly with tape over the top.

Remember to align the foam along the edge in a nice straight line and it forms the edge of the "screen".

You can put foam all along two opposing sides but you need to place the fan and leave a decent airgap (use small pieces of foam for support on these sides) as the panel will get damaged otherwise.

Good luck.
