Yesterday there was a good discount in a local shop nearby. I deiced to buy a monitor unplanned.

Well at first I decided to go for 2232BW as it seemed like a good choice for the money. I was not looking for the greatest picture , instead looking for a low priced 22" having dvi and some decent properties.

At the time of the purchase I unfortunately couldn't make a search on the internet. When I talked to some seller in another shop he praised 226cw and told that it had a much better color range, moreover its panel was made in europe etc.

Went home to get the money. Since my internet connection still had problems at that moment I couldn't search 226CW, time was running out so I went out and bought 226CW.

2232bw and 226cw was put side by side in the shop and 226cw seemed alot better at that moment, although I think it was about calibration of the monitors.

I came home, set up the monitor, no dead pixels. I was pleased but:

Before I start calibration I googled for the monitor and the review I found was quite upsetting.

To summarize the article:

-The measured contrast is around 740 (this is supposed to be a 1000:1 monitor).
-The colors were not close to the real values, satureted.
-Input lag was off the charts, 226bw was measured around 5-10ms while this monitor was having nearly 40ms :o.
-Response time was measured around 5ms and it is said that the overdrive has no effect.

Now woow. I could have gotten a 2232bw for 80$ less and now according to the article I payed 80$ more for an inferior monitor :fou: .

BTW monitor is manufactured in Slovekia in 2/2008, so pretty new.

I'm quite unhappy right now. I haven't observed anything about the response time and input lag but unless they are measured I'm not sure if I can say a lot of things about that.
About the colors, I can confirm that there is red color dominance, and playing with the monitor gives me a headache. Magic tune calibration makes little sense since there are a lot of other predefined calibrations like game, sports, movie etc. and it is very hard to decide if some calibration is better.

I will be glad if someone can show a good calibration for this monitor. Also I'd like to hear if there is a way of guessing the input lag and response time without using a camera. Moreover a way for guessing the contrast would be great...

Thanks...

**Thanks Samsung for continuing the legacy, first there was a lot of panels for the same model (see 226bw), now they have too many models but the prices are nearly random, inferior models cost a lot more :non:

I guess the forum is dead :(

Btw I measured the input lag of the monitor and the maximum lag was 15-16ms while the average was around 7-8ms.

I also can distinguish the effect of RTA hence it seems this panel is better then the one which is tested in the Behardware's review.

How hard could it be...

John - Any progress on calibration of the 226cw? I, too, am having color issues, but MagicTune says my system isn't supported (I think it's the NVIDIA 8800gt).

When my wife loads Photoshop, it states my monitor driver (or calibration - can't remember) is corrupted. If she chooses to 'ignore,' I think adobe gamma updates the driver...and the whites in Photoshop actually turn white (choosing 'use anyway' keeps my driver but Photoshop's white is yellowish). However, after doing this, my game Bioshock won't load - I have to reinstall the original monitor's driver.

I've chosen "normal," for the monitor's color...and it seems much less red. MS Paint's white shows white. However, Photoshop's white shows a yellow tint. I'm not sure if my color is accurate, and Photoshop can't read the profile/driver correctly, or vice versa.

I'm thinking of returning this monitor. Any advice?

Thanks!
