This is our forst time so can you guide us please?
We have been given a Smith Corona XD 4600 Electric Typwiter which we would like to pass on to our grand-daughter..the trouble is that whenever you press a key you get the wrong letter come up on the display....is this a fatal fault due to mishandling or is there an in built tool (like on a computer) which will reconfigure it?
please help as we are what is known as Silver surfers and are on a continual learning curve!

It may have been set to different language. If you have the manual, check how to set it to your prefered language. I'm not even sure if that is worth fixing.

It wasn't another language ..it was just random letters and signs!
Anyway when I next switched it on to show someone the fault it had cleared and the machine now works fine!
So the answer is to switch it on and off a few times if it happens again.
By the way the smith Corona address suggested we sent it back by post for complete service!!....don't think so!
