I have a Microsoft MN-700 but the wireless network does
not reach all parts of my house. What is the easiest way
to extend the range? Can I add a bigger antenna? Is a
wireless range extended such as that made by Linksys
compatible?

Dear Julie,

The easiest way is a bigger antenna fro your PC WiFI
adapters. Replacing the MN-700 antenna is not cost-
effective. Here is one company that suplies both
antennae and amplifiers. I have never tried them...

Note, these antennae come withmicrowave connectors for
certain WiFI adapter cards (Buffalo, OrinoCo, Cisco,
Apple Airport, etc.) Contact them before purchasing.

AFAIK the MN-700 comes with an internal and an external antenna. It is not
possible to replace either one (at least not officially - no idea whether
screwdriver-heads can do so, but surely that would void the warranty hehe).
As another reply suggested, you may have better luck improving the other end
of the connection in some way. Have you experimented with orientation of
the external antenna on the MN-700? I don't recall seeing any post with
information about how the orientation works best (vertical? horizontal? torn
off?)

Hi Julie,
I have the exact same problem... I checked the
hyperlinktech.com solution and it's pretty pricy at $199
for a compatible amplifier.
I will check back in a couple of days to see if someone
offers other possibilities, if not, this unit will have
to go back to Costco... even though I really like it.

The alternative is a NetGear superG - I heard their range
is excellent

Before you spend money for the "super G" type models, be aware they're
proprietary in that they only work with like equipment. If you have a
laptop, for instance, with a regular G card you're only going to get the
speed of the 802.11g standard.

Have you tried moving the base station higher/lower in the room? Away from
walls at least a foot or so, and definitely away from other electrical
products? Environment, such as the construction of your residence can play
a big part, too, especially if there are large appliances such as
refrigerators in the path.
