Hello, recently I just purchased this laptop directly from dell. It seemed like a pretty good performer for the price and has a nice set of features. Does anyone have experience with this laptop? Also any hardware guru's like to chime in here on my configuration, faster ram was not available and a bigger HD took me out of my budget. Any comments (negative,positive) are welcome.

No i dont plan on playing any games, possibly world of warcraft and that played on my old p4 just fine so i will be fine with this new one, just mainly standard college student stuff, music, movies, homework and web browsing. The thing i like most about it is that it has the feature where you dont have to turn on the computer to listen to music or watch movies. Anyone else?

Costco.com has the e1405  for $1,179 delivered (through 9/24) with the following: (I don't like is the 533 RAM. Would rather have 667 for this cpu. Would prefer a 7200RPM hard drive but Dell has been pulling them back out of some of  their configs for some reason. Also, I'd need to see the screen. I've had some bad experiences lately buying Dell notebooks without first seeing the display. They're using some really crappy displays on *some* of their units. I'm already a member and love the 6 month return policy. This might be a good alternative to the E1505?)

Anyone using Internet Explorer 7 can go to the bottom right where there is a magnifying glass and 100% written next to it. Switch it to 400% to find the secret message in that post. Unfortunately, START|PROGRAMS|ACCESSORIES|ACCESSIBILITY|MAGNIFIER doesn't have the same effect, it still looks like lines of nothing.

Or paste into word and magnify.

Actually, yours is a much better solution.

I just ordered an e1705 (not sure if 17" is your thang"  
It's pretty much the same setup less the DVD burner and it also has the 7900gs.
Only $50 more than what your paying w/ the $300 off coupon floating around on the net.

Number ONE... you could tell the guy that owns this machine all the stuff you think of him and his rig because you can't appreciate a hand finished piece of craftsmaship. Or maybe you could get over your own hang-up's long enough, and not be so insecure that you would feel the need to do something like that... sure. All except, you are never going to see him because I doubt you hang with guys who can wire me 4 grand cash to have exactly what they want. You're more in that "coupon" crowd.
 
Number TWO...  you have a DELL.. and a DELL Inspiron at that. It is a cheap plastic POS. I know the 3D Mark numbers on that machine with a 7900 gs and it is 40 to 45% below the 7900 GTX in a good machine. The screen is also total junk, and I am not even going to get into that. Maybe one day if I find someone with a DELL I will throw an Executioner side by side with it and if the DELL can keep from peeing on itself long enough, I will take a picture of the screens and it will be like frickin' Joan Rivers next to Jessica Alba.
 
Number THREE... why would I offer a 7900 gs? The thing doesn't even have the firepower of the 7800 GTX, it's a complete step backward to save some wattage. I offer the 7800 GTX, and it's a better gaming card. I don't have to suck up to every person in the market place like DELL and be a "me too", I build gaming rigs, not wanna be gaming rigs
 
If anyone else is looking at comparing a 7900 gs to a GTX in either 7800 or 7900 variety, all save you the search.

k maybe I was a little harsh, but all u do is hi-jack threads w/ my systems are soooo much better than anything else.  Doesn't really add anything and usually kills any hope of the OP getting their Q's answered.
I will say, they are nice and u do use good parts.
 
As far your 40 - 45% performance diff.
Anyone who can burn a CD and has a little patience can cut that down into the 15 - 25% range by undoing Dell's underclock.
That brings your 40% price premium into question.
 
U basically start w/ a $1500 Clevo M570U(w/ the GTX included) and charge people $1000 for a $300 processor and $180 worth of RAM (estimates based on base Executioner.)  Your time can't be worth that much man.
 
I could understand the gouging if you were off-setting the cost of marketing, but you freakin advertise on a forum Dude!!!

In defence of KN I think what he does in this forum is very valuable  to its users, not only he is damn funny at times but he helps all sorts of poeple and does not just ignore what they say and point them to his computers; unless he believes thats what would make the person happy. I have seen KN recommend other companies computers when he sees it as a better fit for that particular customer.
 
As far as price gauging i cant really coment on that because i dont know enough about hardware costs and the cost of construction.(however compare the exectutioner to similair computers and you will find his pricing very fair)
 
I do however think advertising on this forum is smart, it a community of laptop users, your advertising is much more direct and focused on a certain group of people, and its more hands on and direct, i like that.
 
paying people millions to make 3d rendering of computers and have them dancing with penguins floating through the air and lasers flying around, thats how dell advertises. they hide behind flashy colors. and the talents of 3d artists and marketing people.

Wait, you're cutting the performance difference of the 7900 GTX to 25% compared to a 7900 GS by unlocking & over clocking the GS but  
1. It voids your warranty  
2. Wouldn't you then have to O.C. the 7900 GTX?  
I mean, your argument is completely flawed. What if your junk 7900 GS can't unlock and O.C.? I mean, it didn't start out life as a gs, it was a reject that got locked up because it couldn't "make grade" in the first place, and now you are attempting to unlock the bad pipes and gain performance. Do you think nVidia sells top of the line cards at cut rate prices to DELL just for the fun of it, or the thrill of dealing with the ChinaMart, I mean WalMart of computers?

And a $300 CPU? First off, everyone is advertising Core 2 Duo's, but thanks to your buddies at DELL cutting back door deals, no system builders can actually get them until Oct. I have sold C2D's to 2 different high-end system builders so they could fulfill their orders because they couldn't get them. Just like 2 GB RAM chips for the last 4 months. BIG is good, but without competition, you're paying $300 for an operating system, but hey, keep shoveling the money to DELL, and they can then drive everyone out of business and send all the work to China. Sounds like a plan man.

Of course you, as this one time system buyer is going to have another system just sitting there in inventory you can pull a 7900 GTX out of... right? Because you know with all you clout with the ODM you know you can have one cross shipped... right?  
Where exactly do you think all those returned products go anyway?  
Could they possibly go back to nVidia, where nVidia then tries to salvage the product by locking it up and re-branding it and shipping it off again?
 
So right now, we're at another $70 in shipping back and forth PLUS a cross ship charge on a video card.
 
I mean, here's ME, building systems and just GOUGING people's eyes out on the margins.

I would just like to say, "At NO TIME did I tell the guy above to BUY A KILLER NOTEBOOK..." I actually read his post wrong initially and thought he was asking if he should buy it. I wouldn't have even replied had I read it carefully and seen he already had and was looking for afirmation of his purchase. Your "attack" on a picture I posted of a customer's notebook was completely unprovoked. I said NOT to buy the DELL, then we were joking about notebooks sold at CostCo. Go read it!  
 
I don't know where this all came from, but you are like AP ver.b - What is DELL like sending people to try to save their image because a quick search will yield about 7 zillion complains and gripes with every part of their business model? What are they targeting the people telling the truth and consumers at a grass roots level?

Before you buy, ask yourself a question, "Do I want to get jerked around, or do I want to have my system built and handled by a qualified high end shop?"

I support K|N here, because if you look into it his product i smuch more quality. I have a Inspirion now I want to get rid of, the casing sucks just for starters.

I would love to have an Ex but just can't justify $2500(which I would've added more RAM and probably a C2D7200 anyway.)  BUT, I definately would not want that badge on my system.  Bling is not my thang.  I don't see y you wouldn't offer the GS.  Might get you a few more orders because some people don't need absolute bragging rights.
 
My pricing model, yeah I missed the hard drive and some overhead costs.  100 bucks, yikes, y are you in this business anyways?  BTW when I was lookin I couldn't tell if the O/S was included or not.  Maybe I missed it on your site.
