I know how many talented people are on these boards so I am hoping that someone may have a solution to my connection problem.
 
My PC and my IPAQ hx4700 cannot talk to each other. I have installed the Active Sync (3.70) software on both, but when I put the Ipaq in its cradle and turn on the message comes up that the USB port is not working. The software naturally fails to detect the machine.
 
The USB works fine for my camera, so what could be the problem, I wonder?
 
I am using XP but cannot use the up-to-date version of ActiveSync (4.1) as I have not got the service pack installed. Don't know if that makes any difference.
 
Any help would be most appreciated.

You will need to upgrade the service pack and install the sync software before the phone is recognized by XP
