 Thread : Smoking Dell!

More Information

Hi, as you guys have heard there have been some "exploding" laptops going around, made by Dell and having some faulty batteries. Well, I had one. A few days ago, some thick smoke starting come out of it and it just shut down. It was an Inspiron 2200. I was scared to turn it back on, so I called them. I was flabbergasted at the great support I got from Dell. They showed me how to remove the hard drive, get the data off, everything! They said they'd ship me a replacement or something better. These were the specs. of the first Dell:

1.4Ghz Celeron M Processor
512MB of RAM
14" Screen (Standard screen ratio)
20GB Hard Drive (Originally 30GB, but Windows and formatting drop that down to 20GB)
CD-RW/DVD Combo Drive

Paid around $400, for some simple web-browsing, a light DVD once in a while. Well, I got me replacement today, an Insprion B130. Here are the specs for it:

1.7Ghz Pentium M Processor (Holy f'ing shite!!)
512MB of RAM
14.5" (Wide-screen!)
Hard Drive with two Partitions. Drive C is 52GB (main), Drive D is 18GB (Backup, I mean it is literally called Backup) Total is around 70GB, then.
DVD+/-RW, CD-RW with Dual Layer

Yeah, a huge upgrade, especially the hard drive and the processor. I'll be upgrading to a full GB in memory whenever I get the chance.

I love you, Dell. I hate your desktops, but your laptops are pretty good for an average user. I got the total of the machine off the website: $711. $311 was what they lost. I hated the full black, cheapy plastic looking covers, much better with Silver. It doesn't seem to get as hot as the old one, either. Boot-up was at least a good 10 seconds shorter from the last one. All this because Sony screwed some batteries. Just for that, I may invest in a PS3.

Thank you, Dell!

P.S. It, in fact, did come w/ Google Desktop and that accursed McAffe. Hail AVG!
