I recently bought a portable DVD player at Best Buy which had the most stupid and frustrating packaging ever. Note that Best Buy and most other store high value items like this behind locked glass or in the back room somewhere. Anyway, the player came in sealed in clear plastic encloser which was fused all around and forced me to use a hunting knife to remove the damn plastic. It was only when I got the plastic off that I got pissed off, because inside was a regular cardboard box with the DVD player. All the info (including UPC) was printed on the cardboard box and the clear plastic had absolutely nothing on it; not even a sticker. Basically the plastic was there to piss the customer off; I see no other purpoose that it serves. It can't be an anti-theft measure as stores aren't stupid enough to stock them on customer assessible shelves; it wasn't there to provide an info on the product as there was nothing on the plastic; and it sure as heck couldn't have been to protect the product as the cardboard box was more than adequete for that purpose.
