Ok- So I anticipate there are countless "good" cell phones for countless purposes BUT generally speaking, which is the best phone for simply using it as a phone. My wife has a Nokia 1260 and it's, for lack of a better description, a butt nugget. I've seen some Motorola phones that look sleek but don't know anything more.

All phones tend to break. I finally gave up my cell phone service after 3 years. During that time I had something like 12 phones. Whatever you do....get a warranty for a cell phone. You're gonna need new batteries pretty often most likely and cell phones tend to wear out. I just replaced my phone everytime the battery died or the service started getting lousy. A phone tends to lose reception with time. They don't make these phones to last.

I used to sell mobile phones. Nokia's weren't that great. They break a lot! Bottom of the barrel. I had a samsung for years and was pretty happy. Motorola's phones were tanks, unbreakable, but I'm not sure how they are today.
