That's a sweet deal for AMD I'm sure.

I wonder how that will affect the supply line to the little guy.

I mean DILL already cuts back room deals with nVidia to get the 7900 GTX 512 MB video cards for their notebooks exclusively for who knows how long. I know a lot of suppliers telling me they wish they could offer it, they wish they could get it, but they haven’t heard word 1 when it will be released to them.

They use their clout to get AlienWar the SLi 17” notebook and it’s not available to other resellers unless they buy lots of 500 or more. I don’t have a million bucks just lying around to deal direct with the manufacturer.

So this is awesome, unless it effects the competition. Without competition prices start high and stay high. Prime example is the 20” widescreen LCD’s… dirt cheap because everyone is offering one, when DILL started and they were the only game in town $800+, I saw one the other day for $280. 24” monitor; $400 cheaper this year from last, now that other guys have it. 30”, right now… you got Apple and you got DILL, and if you got 2 grand you can get one.

It wouldn’t take much for AlienWar to wipe out the boutique gaming shops like Widow, VooDoo and K/N with the resources they have at their disposal now.
Mike DILL’s henchmen meet with the ODM’s, “Hey, what are you guys selling per year to these guys?”
ODM, “X units”.
M.D.H. (Michael DILL’s Henchmen), “What do you say we buy that much per year and you guaranty us 1st place in the order line, a cut bulk rate, and you raise your prices per box because now there is a “shortage”.
ODM, “Deal Mike’s Henchman… thanks”
This of course is a dramatization, but it is occurring right now on a limited scale on what I mentioned above.

Look at Microstiff when they were (essentially) the only game in town.
Microstiff: “Ok corporate licensers, we are no longer going to be selling you software you pay for once. No, now we will be selling you a “per seat” license and you will pay us each year to “lease” your software.
Corporate Answer: “Ok Microsoft, we’re moving to Linux, and open office.” [visions of bags of money flying out the Windows.]
Microstiff: “No, no, no… those guys are baaaaad; Bad, bad, bad: That “leased” licensing thing that was about 2 years away from everyone,... No, that was the idea of this lunatic inside Microstiff acting completely on his own. He never had authorization to leak that plan... I mean, ummmmmmm, we didn’t even know about that, that's not real. That guy’s fired. We will “never” do anything like that again, I mean, had we even done it this time, but of course we didn't. So, hey, while we’re talking good buddy, how’s about me and you get rid of this evil Linux.”

version 2.0 of this free productivity suite is surprisingly slick and highly compatible with Microsoft Office file formats. It even offers features not found in its expensive Microsoft counterpart.

Names have been changed to protect the guilty, the stories expressed above are completely fictional, and any resemblance to actual events is purely coincidental. Michael DILL is not a real person. The only name that reefers to and actual company is Linux because they are anti-establishment.
