Do you guys have any good recommendations for good-performing PPC's? I currently have a Tungsten T3 Palm PDA but I think PPC is better.

If you want a good all integrated PPC, look at the PPC6700 from Sprint.

Latest Windows Mobile, networked broadband via EVDO, plus a phone, and WiFi for when you are hanging at the Barnes and Nobles.

Overall it looks pretty nice, but I have some questions.

1) What is EVDO?

2) Is that the fastest processor there is for PPC?

W/o going too technical on you (which I have a pain of doing) EVDO is the current Broadband Internet CDMA Carriers are using.

Capable of hitting all around average speeds of 750-550 kpbs (or the first cable modem speeds).

There are spikes where you can hit 1Meg DL's as well.

As far as processor speeds, I haven't been keeping up w/ stand alone PDA's so I'm not sure if Starcom's is as fast, or faster than what is out there in that dept.

If I get a chance to research some of those, I'll post my proc findings.

For good PDA functinos, Dell Axim x50 is really good.

PPC camera's are the crappiest in the world so don't look for that integrated function.

Also try to check if you will get a PPC with Windows Mobile 2005 OS as audio BT profile will be supported natively, which will make your listening experience, wireless...

Or the T-Mobile MDA which, I believe, is the GSM version of the same PPC/Phone.

The MDA is a nice offering (and the only somewhat similar offering) but it is much slower with a 200+mhz proc. The 6700s (Sprint and Verizon) carry the Intel X-scale proc at 416mhz.

For the OP that asked if it is the fastest available NO. The Axim x50 carries a 612mhz proc.

The 416 in the vx-6700 can be overclocked to 612 very stable and very easily (battery becomes a conern at this point).

I have the verizon version of the 6700 (black instead of silver) and I find new things to do with it EVERY day. One of the best geek gadgets I have EVER owned.

With the 6700 (and other PPC phones) you can check your email (wirelessly), surf the web (actually very useable), text (full qwerty keyboard), Play MP3s (via the mini sd card up to 2gb right now), play ripped DVDs/mp4/avi/mov files..... and .... and ...... and.......

These things really do rock. There is ONE PPC phone that is faster the Samsung i730 by verizon but it is bulkier and has a less useful keyboard than the 6700.

My understanding is that the MDA processor, although running at a slower clock speed, is claimed to be approximately as fast as the 400MHz X-scale. Similar to the AMD which run at a slower clock speed than the Pentiums but provide roughly the same performance (sometimes even better).

I was pointing out the MDA only because someone might be in the opposite situation from me-we only have a CDMA carrier here ('promised' a GSM system will be up by next year).

As for the performance claims, believe them at your own risk. My experience is with the AMD/Pentium claims-which are fairly honest. I have a PPC 6700 myself & heartily recommend it if you have a CDMA service you're happy with.

If you need a PPC only device take the DELL Axim X51v

Pro: - VGA Screen
- Fast
- Faster! =)
- reliable
- WM5

Con: - Price

If money is an issue take the X50v but do not upgrade to WM5 then. All you would have then is a useless device with a lot of trouble!

If you want a PPC with phone take the HTC Wizard (or similliar like VPA2compact):

Pro: - batterie last very long
- WM5
- Build in Keyboard
- Plenty of usefull hardware buttons

Con: - Prozessor is a little slow

If money isn`t an issue take a PPC6700 cause of really fast internet con if you got CMDA contract!
