Yeah, that's it; can I install my Linux software on my iBook with OS X (10.1, that is)?

I'm pretty sure you CAN'T just install it and run it. But, as almost all linux software is open-source, you can download the source code, and compile it in OS X to make it run on your mac.

If Linux will run on a Mac may depend on the hardware!

Yellow Dog Linux has lots of newer G4's in it's "supported hardware" list. Penguin PPC might have more info too.
