Hi,
I'm moving soon and want to move my Directv. I won't do the move
deal with them as it requires a 1 year contract. I've recently lost
my job and don't want any contract.
I want to move my own dish. Or buy a new one. Any sites where I
can order a new mount, dish and LNB?

Your cheapest option is probably to take your existing dish with you. The
second-cheapest is probably to check on eBay; lots of people sell used
dishes there, and you can even pick up new ones pretty inexpensively. The
third option would be to check with a DirecTV dealer; I'm sure most of
them would be quite happy to sell you a dish.

There are some issues to consider:

1. We don't know how Mark's dish is installed. If it's roof-mounted,
its removal will require a patch job (and might leave behind cosmetic
imperfections).

2. The next resident might prefer that the dish remain in place. If
Mark owns the house/condominium/apartment (and plans to
sell/lease/rent it), this would be a consideration.

3. We don't know what type of dish Mark is using. If it's a circular
model, he might want to replace it with the elliptical type
(particularly if he happens to be relocating to a DMA in which DirecTV
transmits local stations via the 119° W orbital slot).

If any of the above applies, Rod's eBay suggestion probably is the
best advice.

Screw them. Let the landlord deal with it. Or caulk it.

He's happy with the one he has. Take it. Why would you want to pay 75
bucks for a new dish when you have one sitting there?

If mark has a landlord, part of his security deposit could be withheld
to cover the repair. If Mark owns the residence, he'd be devaluing
his own property.

Again, however, we don't know how Mark's dish is installed. It might
not be roof-mounted.

No, but its presence adds value (and assures prospective residents of
signal availability). And are you unfamiliar with the concept of
being a nice person?

Evidently, you failed to comprehend the above point. It's possible
that Mark...

* presently resides in a DMA for which DirecTV carries local stations
at 101° W (their primary orbital slot) or doesn't offer local
stations.

* owns a circular dish (which is incapable of receiving transmissions
from more than one orbital slot at a given time).

* is relocating to an area in which DirecTV carries local stations via
the 119° W orbital slot.

This would mean that Mark would be unable to receive local stations
from DirecTV without purchasing either a multi-satellite dish or a
second circular dish to use in conjunction with the first (an
illogical option).

As an aside, it should be noted that DirecTV uses the 72.5° W orbital
slot for retransmission of some DMAs' local stations (the reception of
which requires a second dish or a relatively expensive unit, such as
those offered by WaveFrontier).

It's a circular dish with dual LNB. It's mounted on the detached
garage roof. I'm Probably going to take it with me. Caulk up the
holes in the roof.
Problem is new house is dense with trees. I wanted a pro to deal with
finding the best spot. Heck, It may not even work there.
It's a 20 mile move.

Use moveing as an excuse to get a new upgraded multisat HD + locals dish.

Lots of sites on google sell dishes and mounts.

Use an FTA receiver like the fortec lifetime ultra. you can unscramble the
subscription channels with information available on the internet and receive
free satellite channels. this is for DISH networks. However it will work
with your existing direct tv dish... like I said this info is available on
the internet just search for FTA...

I missed the original post.

You can move your dish or install a new one and just call DirecTV and
give them your new address and phone number.

I found dishes on eBay. I got a complete 3lnb dish with mounting
hardware for something like $30-35, delivered.

A while back I bought a tripod for something like $30.
