Anyone having a problem recording Lost, which runs to 9:01 p.m., and then
switching over to The West Wing, which starts at 9 p.m.? Both are set for
guaranteed recording, but TWW fails to start recording owing to Lost running
long. If there's a solution to this, please tell me!

It looks like the networks are trying to cause trouble when the
schedule things like that. One Replay won't record 2 things at once.
If you start recording TWW at 9:01 will it work?

Also, is either show on at a different time also? Sometimes that's a
way to avoid conflicts.

Unfortunately, it's all or nothing unless you use Manual Recording,
specifying start and stop times for both shows. Replay handles
priorities poorly. It ought to record as much as possible of a program
that doesn't conflict with a higher priority program.

No problem here. With five 5000 series boxes on line, we never have a
conflict we can't work out. And yes, we do record both Lost and West Wing
regularly on two different units.

Manually record Lost 8-9 or TWW 9:01-10 and the other conventionally,
depending on whether you want to lose the last minute of Lost or the first
of WW.

As an aside, I wrote the network asking why Lost has the odd time. No
response. It would surprise me if they are doing it deliberately to cause
exactly the problem you're experiencing. Good enough reason not to watch it
in my book, although they probably don't care whether we watch it or not
since we skip the commercials.

2: Manually set LOST, up so that it ends on the hour instead of one
minute later (you likely won't miss anything other than credits, if that

3: install an ATI-TV-wonder card or All-in-wonder card on your computer
and use it to record one or the other of those shows (Much cheaper than
another RTV (50 and 99 dollars respectively) however not as capable,
I've got to E-mail ATI (Radion) and make a few RTV like suggestions)

It should, but what it does is still better than having no record
priorities feature at all.

That priority feature was something I asked for when the v2 software
was being developed. They took a long time to add it. Also, it would
be better if they told people.

It may be better to record it all and start the other show a minute
late. With some, you just miss the preview of that episode (something
I'd want to miss, since it makes the episode more predictable and so
less interesting).

When considering the prices, don't forget activation (even when the
ads want you to). That could make that $99 dollars become $398 (still
much less than the prices of the original Replays).

Don't do anything else on that computer during the recording, since
Windows doesn't handle real-time multitasking very well.

The ATI cards for your computer do not come with a monthly activation or
lifetime activation fee. IN my case, I spent fifty bucks plus sales
tax, I installed it, and it works, period. it does digital copy in the
MPEG format, I think "Longer" is the same size, and thus one assumes
about the same quality as "Standard" on the RTV, (it also has a
"longest" type of setting, and a good, and a best)

Software that comes with it is kind of nice, File player, librian , Gist
TV listings, CD-player DVD player more.

But there is no "Activation" on it at all, it's a one time purchase.

It's a computer card after all, comes in 4 versions, internal or
external (USB) remote or no remote

I consider that we are speaking about apples and potatoes. Two
different things

I use the REPLAY as my primary video recorder because it does much of
the work for me, it automatically looks up shows, tells me when it can't
record them and records them if it can.

On the other hand the ATI card has to be manually programed for each
recording (or at least told "Record every Tuesday at 8pm) Though you
can search the listings you can't set up a theme channel to auto-record
every occurance of say ALIAS (With the Replay I can do that even if
ALIAS is not currently on the air, IN fact I recently did) But it does
a comparable job of recording and playing back

But it is clearly secondary to the replay in my installation

Also,, Windows XP crashes more often than the replay so you don't really
want to rely on the ATI card all the time like I do the Replay.

In fact, there is one show that was on last night it was supposed to
record but another program (DV-Archive to be exact) Crashed and blocked
it, Not a problem however as this show I tripple record, I have it
programmed in the Replay (Record if no conflicts) into the VCR (record,
period) and into the ATI card (Record if not crashed) so I got it

But you are talking about replays and activation and I'm talking abou
the ATI-Wonder cards and they do not require it.. They are also not as
good as a Replay.

True, and installing a video digitizer card can make Windows crash
more often.

What I first said was that theReplay requires activation, so if a
Replay is sold for $99 the actual price is $398 (with lifetime
activation). That fact makes the price comparison ($50 instead of $99)
incorrect.

I did not say anything about the ATI card requiring activation.

Damn - how many people do you record for? I have 2 networked TiVos,
and I rarely need the second box since I only use it for the rare
conflict. I have a 3rd box, but I took it offline and I only keep it
is a spare.
