I apologize if this isn't the right forum for this question. If not,
please direct me to a more appropriate forum.

I'm a Showstopper owner, but I'm interested in recording TV shows on my
PC as well, then burning them to DVD. I'm currently using a trial
version of Beyond TV by Snapstream to record shows to my PC , and it
works pretty good. However, it apparently only allows you to burn single
episodes to DVD. I'd like to burn multiple episodes to DVD to do my own
DVD compilations.

I know that many of you use Womble to edit your recordings such as
removing commercials. (I have DVD Movie factory, but it is S-L-O-W.) I
just downloaded the Womble 30-day trial and am trying it out. So far,
I've been able to figure out how to remove the commercials and export
the MPEG file. Can someone point me to a good tutorial for using Womble
(or something else) to compile multiple episodes of a show, then burning
the compilation to DVD via Nero 6.3 (which I also already own)? I seem
to have all of the software programs (some are limited-time trial
versions) in place, but am not sure of the exact procedures to follow.

I want to make sure everything works as advertised before making the
final purchases of all the software (and a larger hard drive).
Basically, I want to record from TV (no problem there), remove
commercials, then burn multiple episodes to DVD.

Womble is only an editor. To author a dvd and create a menu system and
multi-eps you need an authoring program like DVD MF. MF is slow because
it re-encodes everything. If you take Replay 5k files and edit in Womble
, the best authoring program is probably DVDlab. You won't have to
re-encode. You can create a disk in a couple of minutes. How are you
pulling the files off the showstopper?? Pulling the drive every time?
It's a lot easy with a 5K.

I use Replay 5xxx (actually 3 of them), which can transfer the files
to a computer, then Womble (editor), and DVD movie factory (authoring

If these are MPG files, there's no reason you couldn't burn multiple
episodes. You must have some very limited DVD authoring software.

I use DVD Movie Factory, it's the best I've tried. All DVD authoring
programs are slow, the process is very CPU-intensive and can really
benefit from a faster computer. Consider FSB (memory speed) as well as
CPU speed.

You need DVD authoring software. You should have gotten such a program
with Nero. It's called "Nerovision Express 2".

Note that it may ask you for a serial number. Use the same one you got
with Nero.

Use MPEG-VCR (Womble) to edit the show, removing commercials).

Use Nerovision Express 2 (or other DVD authoring software) to create a
DVD from those files, and it will then call Nero to burn the DVD.

Note that if you're going to use longer files, you may want to
consider using NTFS (allows files larger than 4GB). This requires an
OS such as Windows 2000.

I get about 7 "hours" (actually 45min each after commercials are
removed) on a DVD-R. The exact amount depends on the source of the
files. These are from a Replay 5xxx. The number of episodes will be
limited by the software, but should be at least 6.

BTW, Nero claims to support the DVD+R DL disks, which should hold even
more, mut the media is still expensive.

I'm not pulling files off of the Showstopper. I'm using a trial version of
beyondTV3 on my PC to capture the shows. If there were an easy way to pull
files off the Showstopper to DVD (using a PC-based DVD burner), I'm interested
in hearing about it. 8-)

I've used DVD Movie Factory and find it extremely slow. I think that I'll
try NeroVision (forgot that it came with Nero).

I think there's a program you can use. You have to transfer the drive
to a PC, which could be a lot of work if you want to do this more than
occaisionally.
